Programs Offered:

Creative Dance
Designed for children to develop awareness of space, movement and co-ordination through creative movement. Props such as balloons, balls, ribbons, and musical instruments are used to enhance the child’s musical interpretation. Fundamentals of ballet are introduced. This program is offered to students ages 3-4. |

Ballet
Children will be introduced to the Royal Academy of Dancing method of classical ballet. Ballet training provides an excellent basis for good posture, balance and sense of rhythm, musicality and artistry. A sense of achievement, combined with knowledge and self-discipline, are gained by the study of ballet technique. Students will be prepared for R.A.D ballet exams based on teacher recommendations. Character work, similar to Folk Dancing, is part of the R.A.D. grades. Students are required to purchase character shoes when registering for grades 1-6. Character skirts can be purchased or rented for the year.
Ballet classes are divided into the following levels beginning at age 4: Pre Primary, Primary, Grades 1-6, Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced. |

Jazz
Students are introduced to dance techniques and exercises, dance terminology, music and theatrical presentation. Jazz training encourages creativity and expression while improving flexibility, muscle tone and coordination. All jazz students are encouraged to also study ballet. Jazz classes are divided into the following levels: Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Classes in Jazz are offered to students age 5 to adult. Classes are leveled as Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. |

Tap
A popular dance form that is wonderful for developing coordination and rhythm. Steps are performed in intricate rhythmical combinations and are applied to various styles of music. All tap students are encouraged to also study ballet or jazz. Tap classes are divided into the following levels: Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Classes in Tap are offered to students beginning at age 5. Classes are leveled as Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. |

Hip Hop
The latest dance craze with its roots in Jazz dance. A form of street dance, the movements are fast and funky. It is a high-energy style of dance seen in popular music videos. All hip hop students are encouraged to also study jazz. Classes in Hip Hop are offered to students beginning at age 5. Classes are leveled as Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Teen. |

Musical Theatre
A form of jazz dance using popular musicals from the Broadway stage. Numbers from such musicals as Grease, Fame and West Side Story are used to dance, act and sing to. All Musical Theatre students are encouraged to study jazz. Classes in Musical Theatre are offered to students beginning at age 7. Classes are leveled as Junior, Intermediate and Senior. |

Acrobatics
A combination of dance and gymnastics. Acro includes the basics of tumbling and floor exercises with ballet and jazz technique. Students learn skills such as cartwheels, front and back walkovers, splits and aerial tricks. A jazz or ballet class taken in conjunction with Acro is strongly recommended. Classes in Acro. are offered to students beginning at age 5. Classes are leveled as Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. |

Lyrical Jazz
Lyrical jazz is a combination of ballet and jazz and is an expression of emotion. It is a more flowing and slower movement of dance and requires a lot of technique and control. It is suitable for the older or more experienced dancer. Classes are leveled as Intermediate and Senior. |

Pointe
Students enrolled in ballet class will have the opportunity to be assessed for pointe work. |

|
Viewing Week
Classes are open for viewing at the end of January during class time. This is an opportunity for family and friends to watch a dance class in progress.
Performance Opportunity
All dance students have the opportunity to participate in Ballare Performing Arts Centre annual year-end performance at the Vaughan City Playhouse theatre.

The Children’s Fitness Tax Credit is issued by the government to parents who have a child(ren) under the age of 16 enrolled in dance classes as well as other organized sports and fitness programs. The credit eligibility is up to a maximum of $500.00 per year. Ballare Performing Arts Centre will issue receipts upon completion of a dance term for parents to claim the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit.
